hello world. Back from yet another blogging hiatus. This weekend has been insane. Actually the insanity began on thursday, when we started recording for COM230. For the uninformed, my COM230 group's producing two music tracks for our final assignment. NOT as easy as its sounds. For one, its multi-track recording where youve to record each instrument and its layers seperately. Also not easy when youre working with perfectionist musicians, which ill get to later. Not that perfectionism is a bad thing. im all for it, especially when it comes to musicality. But theres the looming deadline to consider, and thats when youve to strike the balance between the interests of the musicians and the sound engineers(thats us!).
We've been working with daniel(tan)'s band, and its really nice of them to help us out considering that some of them are working, and all of them are living the east-side story! They've been down consecutively 4 days in a row, albeit not all of them on some days. But two of them stay in tampines, one at pasir ris, and the other at ang moh kio. hahaa thanks daniel and jai for bringing your entire pedalboard down. 15kg and 9kg respectively! We've been confined in the audio suite till the wee hours of the morning for the past 3 days. Yesterday we cabbed out of ntu at 2am! i couldnt join them today, but the recording's finally done, and they ended early (comparatively) at 8pm!
hahaa and here's when im gonna get my paragraph's worth of complaining/whining. ive missed out on so much because of recording sessions! the timing was just bad la. i sacrificed a FREE ticket to KT Tunstall's gig for thursday's session, which was the most crucial, so i guess no regrets la. i think! SIGH! Also gave up a ticket to watch
In the name of dance at timbre on sat. And i couldnt go for fun o rama at ac! And zouk flea market on sunday! :( im really sorry to all the people ive bailed out on at the last minute. it really couldnt be helped! :(
Oh anyway! we're featured in one of their songs! Harmony and backup vocals. hurhur. The 3 of us (daisy, nartz and i) have yet to come up with a name for our trio. We're so not going to use
The Sugarcanes, which is what the band came up with for us (don't ask why).
it was quite an interesting experience altogether! We had our fun moments, high-with-laughter moments, stressed moments, mad( in both sense of the word) moments, tired moments, lack-of-oxygen moments (when the air con auto switches off at 10pm daily!). Problems logistics-wise (argh the friggin drum set!), time-wise. People-wise..learning to accommodate to differences. Thats about as much as i can go into on public domain ;). But its all for the music. ive definitely learnt alot. Of course im inspired by the musicians and their skill. Especially the guitar, but then again im biased.heh. im glad that we had the opportunity to work with talented musicians, who gave us plenty of material to work and experiment around with. i just hope the mixing and editing wont take that long, since we were quite perfectionist about getting a good recording!
Back to perfectionism. i think itll be a topic for another day. heh sorry for the cop-out but im beat! like seriously. i cant wait for the final product to be out. its alot of work, but strangely i enjoy it. i think id still prefer to be the musician than the engineer though ;) Pics will be up when i get them from nartz!
oh yeah. sorry for all the missed calls/late replies for the past 3 days. NO reception for starhub in the studio!
On a seperate note, i thank God for service today.
